The Team and the Coach
The date was March 29, 1958. A crowd of 7318 fans at the Penn Palestra watched the Haverford High School
team defeat Altoona by the score of 67 to 45 in the PIAA Boys Class AAA Championship Game.
The images on this page celebrate the members and coach from that team. The 1959 players are denoted
by bold green text.
The coach was Steve Juenger. The Juenger Gymnasium was originally dedicated in
his name on February 21, 1985. After his death November 18, 2003, the Steven M. Juenger Memorial Fund
was established to provide scholarships to recognize Haverford seniors who exemplify what Coach
Juenger stood for and taught. Interesting information regarding the Memorial Fund
appears in a downloadable PDF file.
